Discover Iceland’s wild northern coast aboard T/S Saeftinghe.

From 29 August to 12 September 2027, we sail from Ísafjörður to Höfn. During this two-week voyage, we follow Iceland’s remote northern and eastern coastline, exploring deep fjords, rugged landscapes and isolated communities along the way.

This is a more challenging Inspire voyage, covering longer distances and sailing through waters where wind, waves and rapidly changing weather help determine our route. Possible highlights include Akureyri, the impressive fjords of northern Iceland and, if conditions permit, the remote island of Grímsey on the Arctic Circle.

As we continue east, the coastline becomes increasingly wild and sparsely populated. The longer duration gives us time to combine real passage-making with sheltered anchorages, small harbours and opportunities to discover Iceland beyond the usual routes.

A varied sailing adventure for those who want to experience life at sea, take an active part aboard and discover Iceland’s northern coast in an Out Of The Ordinary way.

Our programme during this trip

Embarkation

T/S Saeftinghe will be ready for you in Ísafjörður, Iceland. Embarkation is scheduled on Sunday 29 August 2027 from 17:00 onwards.

After settling in aboard, we introduce you to the ship, the crew and the safety procedures for the voyage ahead. Together, we discuss the expected weather and our possible route along Iceland’s northern and eastern coastline.

Ísafjörður and Höfn can both be reached via Reykjavík, making it possible to arrive and depart by air.

Our Program

During this fourteen-day voyage, we sail from the Westfjords towards the north and east of Iceland. Our exact route is not fixed in advance. Wind, waves, weather and sea conditions determine how far we sail each day and which fjords, islands and harbours we can explore.

From Ísafjörður, we leave the dramatic Westfjords behind and set course along Iceland’s northern coast. This region is characterised by deep fjords, steep mountains and small coastal communities, with long stretches of coastline that remain far removed from the country’s more familiar tourist routes.

One of our possible stops is Akureyri, situated deep inside Eyjafjörður and surrounded by mountains. Reaching the town by sea takes us far into one of Iceland’s longest fjords and offers a striking contrast between remote landscapes and life in the country’s northern capital.

If weather and sea conditions allow, we may also sail to Grímsey. This small island lies on the Arctic Circle, approximately 40 kilometres off Iceland’s northern coast. Its exposed position means that a visit can never be guaranteed, but when conditions are favourable, it offers a truly remote stop along our route.

As we continue east, we pass through increasingly isolated waters and explore the fjords and coastal landscapes of northeastern Iceland. Some days may involve longer sailing passages, while others allow time to anchor, go ashore or visit one of the small harbours along the route.

This is a more demanding Inspire voyage. Guests are invited to take an active part in life aboard, including sailing, navigating, keeping watch and sharing the daily tasks. Previous sailing experience is not essential, but an adventurous mindset and a willingness to participate are important.

There is no rigid itinerary. The changing Icelandic weather sets the rhythm, and the captain adapts the route to the conditions. This flexibility is part of the experience and allows us to discover Iceland as it should be experienced from the sea: raw, unpredictable and far beyond the ordinary.

The voyage ends in Höfn, Iceland, on Sunday morning 12 September 2027 after breakfast.

For whom is this trip suitable?

With our voyages, we aim to introduce beginners to sailing and the ocean on the one hand, and experienced sailors who want to do something different on the other. But of course, not every trip is the same... That's why we distinguish between heaviness and effort. That way you have an idea of what you can, should and should expect.

A true sailing adventure with an added sense of challenge. Depending on the route and weather conditions, these voyages may include an occasional night at sea. Greater flexibility and perseverance are sometimes required, but the rewards are equally greater. This level is ideal for those looking to experience longer passages and take their first step into more adventurous sailing without entering expedition territory.
